I must admit, I though my Aksiums were pretty much bomb-proof - until I bunny-hopped a pot-hole only to land in another last Sunday - be careful on the single track road between Morton Tinmouth and Hilton, lots of holes and gravel in the "dip". Cracked and flatted the rear rim :( , although the tyre stayed up :) !
Just about rideable with the caliper open, if a little bumpy!
Anyway, having read Mike's experiences, ultegra wheels are on route!

Well I finally got around to taking the knackered ones back to Merlin Cycles and await a response from Mavic re; refund, only problem was I had not cleaned them and they were trying to suggest they may have corroded, that's my fault for not cleaning them I suppose.

However, whilst over that part of the country, I popped into good old Paul Hewitt's and they are building me some new winter wheels on some 105 hubs that I had, with Rigida Chrina rims. Jonathon Roberts, had some winter wheels built last year by Paul and swears by them, so watch this space.............re my new wheels.

But next week it will be summer wheels and summer kit 8-) yippey, cycling in Costa Majorca, sun, sun and more sun, enjoy the ice, frost and snow boys.

Having had 6 days of solid rain over Mar/Apr in 2009 in Majorca, I know what you mean. However, the long range forcast reads SUN. Your all just jealous,

The Final Chapter hopefully! Wheels went back to Merlin and I noticed a £100 credit in my bank account last week, from Merlin, but had no contact what so ever............call that customer service, well I won't be using them again.

Oh, and Stevie Fs problem with rusty spokes above has now resulted in a spoke popping out of the wheel and he has now ordered some rims to build his own. Apparently, Mavic have re-designed the hubs on the Aksiums, I wonder why!

What now, well Paul Hewitt has built me some wheels for £100 using my own 105 hubs, the rims are Regina Corinas, so how will these wheels...... hand built by a master wheel builder last, well watch this space.
